Our Mission.School can be difficult for anyone.
But if you're a student who does not have access to basic school supplies, clothing, or is food insecure, it can be a day-to-day struggle to survive. The Student Pantry locations found in Wixom Elementary, Glengary Elementary, Hickory Woods Elementary, Loon Lake Elementary, Walled Lake Elementary, and Walnut Creek Middle School allow students to obtain the supplies they need at no cost to them while respecting their privacy. With the support of the Walled Lake Schools Administration, The Student Pantry plans to expand into all Walled Lake elementary schools and middle schools by 2023. |
Our New Headquarters
The Student Pantry’s headquarters are located at 8318 Cooley Lake Road Commerce Township, MI 48382.
The Student Pantry launched in 2014 when Sydney Urbaniak, a then-middle school student, realized that many of her Walled Lake Schools’ classmates were in need of clothes, school supplies and food. “I couldn’t believe that there were so many students in Walled Lake who were without food when many families in the same area are so wealthy. We have been growing since 2014 but the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the need. We outgrew my garage and had to find a larger space,” said Urbaniak, now a senior at Walled Lake Central High School.
Walled Lake students that are in need should contact their counselor, social worker, or principal. Each school in the district has received invitations from the Student Pantry. Families that qualify for free or reduced lunch can receive an application from their school.
“I am trying to help as many of these kids as possible. They’ve done nothing to be in this position and it’s not fair. Students who use the Student Pantry are completely anonymous,” stated Urbaniak.
Those who are interested in volunteering or making a donation should visit the Student Pantry website, www.thestudentpantry.weebly.com. For more information visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040f4fadaf2da5fe3-student8 or email Sydney Urbaniak at surbaniak@studentpantry.org.
